(WINDSOR, ON) – Leonardo Fereirra DaSilva’s tally in the 16th minute held up as Windsor TFC won their third match of the season, and first at home, with a 1-nil victory over visiting Durham United. Fereirra DaSilva was sent clear by Christian Mayorga and the Windsor forward made no mistake, beating Durham’s Kevon Grant to his right.
Picking up the clean sheet win for Windsor was Kaneen Fells playing in his fifth match of the season.
Windsor took time to find their footing from the opening whistle. Bad passes, poor decisions, and shoddy passes hampered Windsor’s forward movement and allowed the visitors unearned chance in close. A Durham dribble from inside the box kissed the goal post due to another defensive miscue.
After the close call WinTFC were able to counter quickly for Fereirra DaSilva’s decisive strike to take some of the pressure off.
The game was also a chippy affair as referee Joey Filipic distributed five yellow cards, including one each to Windsor’s Juan Jaramillo and Jonathan Agapito.
In the waning four minutes of stoppage time in the second half, the full home side was inside 22 yards to take every square inch away from Durham and to preserve the single goal margin.
Windsor travels to London July 26 for their next League 1 match up. Then, on August 6, the annual derby with Detroit City FC will kick off at 7:30pm at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck. Tickets can be purchased online or at The Running Shoe at Pillette and Wyandotte in Windsor.
