Weekend Split For Kent Havoc
(CHATHAM,ON) – The U19 and senior women’s Kent Havoc team hosted the Stratford Black Swans in Southwest Ontario Rugby Union play Sunday at the former CCI field. The women dropped a 31 – 24 decision to the visitors after leading into the final moments.
On Saturday, the men’s side was awarded a default victory over the Bruce County Barbarians. The Havoc (4-0-3) are in 2nd place, 15 points behind the Niagara Rugby Union Division B leading Stratford, after seven matches.
The Kent men travel to AKO Park to meet the Windsor Rogues on July 27 while the women will take to the road for a rematch with Stratford on the 28th.
After 17 years at the CCI field, the future of the rugby club may be in jeopardy due to the sale of their home pitch last August. In recent years the Havoc has grown the sport in Chatham as well as their footprint within the community.
Meanwhile, talks with the Municipality have yet to produce any real options for a new home for the club. The Chatham-Kent Sports Network has reported that only unsuitable locations have been put forward to the Havoc, many as much as 30 minutes from Chatham, while desirable locations are opted to soccer clubs.
